Wprime, Critical Power, 6-minute Power, and Variable Intensity Races

In this video, Dr. Seiler thinks out loud—with math—to explore how critical power and variable intensity races might connect in practice.

In this video, Dr. Stephen Seiler thinks out loud—with math—to explore how critical power and variable-intensity races might connect in practice. He shares his thoughts on Wprime (W’), anaerobic capacity, 6-minute power, and criterium races.

Dr. Seiler does not use the critical power model when working on issues of training intensity distribution. He writes: “However, I do think the CP model is very interesting, conceptually, when trying to understand high-intensity repeatability and energy distribution during those variable-intensity races like cycling criteriums or hill XC ski races.”
